Those who know me are aware of my affinity for all things North Dakota.
The Peace Garden State is my home. I love to live, work and play here, and that's the gist of it.
Growing up in Fargo, the beloved border town, I occasionally crossed over to Minnesota for newspaper interviews and I spent weekends during my freshman year of college traveling the North Star State for big animal statues.
I haven't been to Minnesota since an early summer fishing trip to Lake Traverse, and even that was on a boundary (South Dakota).
But after all this running around North Dakota in its treeless, vast, expansive beauty, I'd appeal to a Minnesota diversion.
Like Valhalla Resort on Island Lake. Or Voyageurs National Park (a bit of a jaunt from Watford City).
Downtown Minneapolis (though I'm not a big city guy). The North Shore.
VNP and the North Shore have me especially intrigued because of the landscapes there and the beautiful pictures I've seen. I'm a sucker for outdoor camping and both look like beautiful places to do some of that.
My family took trips to Minnesota destinations when my sister and I were kids. Lake of the Woods. Island Lake. Getting our deer meet back from Audubon Meats processed as sausage. I admit, those were good outings.
But North Dakota is my home, so it's the place I've mainly stuck to. But I'd love to explore Minnesota on a free weekend.
Just give me a day to get there from Watford City.
